(Flamini left on a free after allowing his contract to expire. Nasri has one year left.)

What’s interesting is that Wilson mentions (and he repeated on Twitter today) that the bid from Man Utd was lodged two weeks ago. That’s a long time to leave twenty million on the table.

It feels like Fergie does have the energy to see through another Man Utd overhaul:

The BBC reports:

The 20-year-old will replace Edwin van der Sar at Old Trafford and will cost a reported £18.9m.

Although De Gea seems to come highly recommended, that a LOT of money to pay for such a young player, and a goalkeeper at that. It could go spectacularly wrong, but I like the direction he’s going.

Goalkeepers have come cheap in the past but it’s worth plunking down a lot of cash for the very best.

You can’t play two goalkeepers at once.

You don’t rotate goalkeepers.

They hardly ever get injured.

So get one great goalkeepers and hope for the best. There’s no Plan B though:

Ferguson currently has goalkeepers Tomasz Kuszczak, Anders Lindegaard and Ben Amos on his books but De Gea is expected to be number one if he completes his move.

Yeah, there’s no Plan B.
